Activities of Mosquito Control Districts
The following are some examples of activities performed by mosquito control districts and can be of importance in the assessment and management of mosquito-borne disease risks:
Collection and identification of mosquitoes Map and monitor mosquito Breeding sites using cutting-edge mosquito control technologies Minimize mosquito breeding sites Monitor mosquito populations and disease - vector-borne disease ecology Utilize Best Management Practices*- Integrated Mosquito Management Participate in mosquito control legislation, and regulatory decisions Follow up monitoring to measure the effectiveness and impact of treatments Education and stewardship
West Nile Virus The Camano Island Mosquito Control Districts participates in the Washington State Department of Health West Nile Virus surveillance program.
*The Camano Island Mosquito Control District utilizes an Integrated Mosquito Management strategy in which we determine the best control methods to abate mosquitoes and breeding areas. This may include habitat alterations, environmentally safe larvicide, and it may be that no control measures are needed.
